TURMERIC

TURMERIC

This vivid, fragrant spice is found in the root of the turmeric plant. Mainly associated with food, turmeric has however been historically used in both Indian and Chinese medicine. Curcumin, the main active component, is renowned for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action and when applied to the skin helps to soothe irritation, speed up healing and boost skin renewal.

CALENDULA

CALENDULA

Dubbed the ‘sunshine flower’ by Dr Spiezia, Calendula flower (or marigold) is one of our favourite ingredients, and part of most of Dr Spiezia’s formulations due to its array of versatile benefits for the skin. The naturally occurring chemical triterpene (oleanolic acid), found in the petals, tackle the overproduction of sebum helping to control bacteria growth and balance skin cell turnover. Similarly, the high concentrations of antioxidants help to neutralise free radicals and protect against skin damage. Historically used for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties this ‘miracle’ flower is a panacea for sensitive, delicate or problem prone skin.

DAMASK ROSE BUDS

DAMASK ROSE BUDS

These beautiful buds are a rich source of vitamin A, C and vitamin E, all antioxidants needed for keeping the skin healthy and radiant. The nutrients found in the petals balance the skin’s PH and work as a natural anti-inflammatory to lighten dark spots, as well as breakouts.
Through strengthening skin cells and regenerating skin tissue, rosebuds can ease skin irritation or inflammation occurring through sensitivity. Another of Dr Spiezia’s best loved ingredients.

SPIRULINA

SPIRULINA

The power packed green algae is known to be one of the most nutrient-dense foods on earth; deemed top super-food, it works wonders internally and externally. On the skin, this antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient can reduce swelling, prevent overgrowth of bacteria (great for problem prone skin) whilst nourishing tired looking skin by shedding dead skin cells to reveal a more rejuvenated, radiant complexion.

Vitamin E and tyrosine - antioxidants naturally present in the algae - are well known for their anti-ageing effects, especially for removing free radicals which are responsible for fine lines, wrinkles and premature skin ageing.

OILS

OILS

Olive Oil

Cold pressed and extra virgin. Olive oil is the most similar oil to our own skin sebum and therefore recognised and well absorbed. It is full of vitamins such as A, D, K and E and contains a high concentration of squalene (often found in skincare in an animal-derived form) which is a great anti-oxidant.

Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is an emollient, meaning it moisturizes our skin and prevents irritations, or scaly and rough patches. It is rich in iodine, which fights harmful bacteria growth that can lead to breakouts and it is very effective at stimulating collagen production.

Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is becoming increasingly popular for its many benefits. Full of vitamin E it helps to promote skin regeneration. It is also known for its anti-ageing properties and for its proteins which contribute to cellular health and tissue repair.
